So the government is moving to seize mosques (NYT)?  Put that way it sounds way bad, right?  Actually, I'm not really sure how it wouldn't sound bad.  It has something to do with ties to Iran and allegations that the foundation who owns them is essentially helping to fund the Iranian nuclear program.  While the proceedings go through the courts (and this could take YEARS), the mosques will remain open, but really?  What will the government do with the mosques if they succeed?

So as more and more of the Fort Hood story unfolds the more I am left gobsmacked.  Seriously?  Malik Nadal Hasan set off alarm bells all over the place but they thought they were being politically incorrect so they essentially ignored it (TMM)?  They were concerned about him but didn't do anything?  And how, if you know someone is troubled, do you just ignore it?  How do you not try and reach out to him?

And what is with the initial reports being wrong as to who shot Hasan (NPR)?

There are many things I cannot understand in all this.  How could Hasan have done this?  Did he really do this in some bizarre protest of Muslims being sent overseas to fight other Muslims?  I think that more than anything shows me that there is something not quite right in his head.  I don't believe it's a religious things, because how could such a thing help his fellow Muslim Americans?  How could he possibly have believed that it would do anything other than harm them (NPR)?

    I just don't understand.
